It took us a while, but there it is, the structure of our first partition walls. It has been a lot of headaches to start with, as none of the existing walls were straight nor square. But we are starting to master the art of making walls look straight when they aren’t !
Hanging doors is also not that simple. It almost took us half a day to get the first one hanging, but the second one only took an hour. Hopefully we did not forget any cable, as we are starting to close the walls tomorrow.
Insolation is also a job in itself. We are using hemp en linen wool for the outside walls, recycled materials for the inside, as we want this renovation to be in line with our ecological philosophy. It is also a lot safer to work with, but it is a hell of a job to cut ! So much that some days we wish to go back in time and change that decision…
We have the same mixed feelings for the Fermacell, which is costing twice the price of regular plasterboards and I am not talking about the weight of the boards ! One thing is sure: we will be a lot stronger when we are finished setting them all up. I am so glad we went for the 10mm one, instead of the initial 12,5. I already wonder how we are going to get these 33 kg boards upstairs, I could see us giving it up if they had been 45 kg !
But it is so nice to start seeing the rooms taking shape and imagine the final spaces, that it makes up for the difficult moments.
